eracount xs

The ISO 4406 laser particle counter.

eracount xs is the smallest and fastest field particle counter. At the push of a button, the laser-based analyzer measures and displays the ISO 4406 particle size channels ≥ 4 µm(c), ≥ 6 µm(c) and ≥ 14 µm(c) – all within 60 seconds using only 10 mL of sample. eracount xs counts particles in eight channels when connected to one of eralytics’ other OCM analyzers.

Xtra easy: Fast & easy particle detection

eracount xs is the analyzer of choice for fast particle measurements with lab grade precision directly in the field. Initial failures in hydraulic and lubricating oil systems lead to the early appearance of big particles. eracount xs easily detects every particle that passes the sensor. The full performance of this laser-based particle counter is achieved by operating it connected to another eralytics analyzer, like the kinematic viscometer eravisc X or the FTIR spectrometer eraspec oil.

Xtra rugged: Extremely robust all-metal device

eracount xs is an extremely robust all-metal device weighing only 3 kg. It can resist harsh environments such as extreme temperatures or any kind of vibrations. It is the perfect analyzer for the contamination detection and condition monitoring of hydraulic and lube oil systems, test rigs and parts cleaning.

Xtra accurate: Measurement according to ISO and NIST standards

eracount xs measures the cleanliness of any lubricant or petroleum product with viscosities up to 1000 mm²/s at 22 C° (up to ISO VG 320) over a pressure up to 2 bar. With its eight particle size channels eracount xs can detect even larger particles, offering the possibility to alert in case of abrasion or machine failure. The instrument is calibrated according to the international standard ISO 11171 and traceable to NIST standards.

Frequently Asked Questions about eracount xs

Yes, when operating independently, you can control the instrument using the two buttons (“Run” and “Rinse”) located on top of the device. To run a measurement, you simply introduce the inlet tubing into your sample bottle and press the start button. The measurement finishes when the last three readings are stable, and the results are displayed directly on the instrument’s screen.
However, there are some limitations to be aware of when using it in stand-alone mode:
– Limited results display: The device will only display the three basic ISO codes (4 µm, 6 µm, and 14 µm) in accordance with the ISO 4406 standard.
– To unlock the analyzer’s full performance, including the ability to measure up to eight different particle size channels and access comprehensive data output options, you must connect the eracount xs to another eralytics analyzer, such as the eravisc X or eraspec oil.

The eracount xs can be easily connected to the ports on the back of both devices using a USB-C cable. Once both devices are turned on, the particle counter is ready for use.
If the eracount xs is retrofitted to an existing device, a software update on the master device may be necessary. For more information get in touch with our sales team >>

You can independently verify the instrument’s accuracy and performance to check if a calibration is needed.
To perform a verification check, follow these steps:
– Use a reference standard: You can verify the instrument by measuring a suitable calibration fluid (reference standard) that complies with the ISO 11171 standard.
– Required volume: A full performance check typically requires 50 mL of the calibration fluid.
– Sample preparation: Ensure the calibration fluid is properly prepared (shaken and degassed in an ultrasonic bath) and collected in a clean bottle before you begin the verification.
– Evaluate the results: Compare your results against the reference values provided with the calibration fluid
Only, if calculated deviations exceeds the maximum acceptable deviation limits specified for the device, it is an indicator that a professional re-calibration is necessary.
It should be noted that, in the vast majority of cases, deviations are caused by insufficient sample preparation or a contaminated measuring cell.

Yes, cleaning (rinsing) the eracount xs between measurements is highly recommended to get rid of any previous sample inside the system and prevent cross-contamination.
You have a few options for cleaning the device between tests:
– Standard air rinse: Remove the sample bottle from the inlet tube and press the “Rinse” button to flush the instrument with air.
– Sample flushing: You can also use the new sample to flush out the system by running extra cycles through the device before recording your actual measurement.
– Deep solvent/oil rinse: If you are switching to a completely different type of sample, it is recommended to rinse the device with clean oil, a filtered solvent, or white spirit.
